The kingdom of God in the gospel of Luke

Good News
  • Jesus and the disciples preached the kingdom of God (Luke 4:43; 6:20; 8:1,10; 9:2,11,60; 16:16)

  • Jesus taught the disciples to pray for it (Luke 11:2)

  • Faithful people were waiting for the kingdom of God (Luke 23:51), also called the consolation of Israel (Luke 2:25) and redemption in Jerusalem (Luke 2:38)

  • We should be seeking the kingdom (Luke 12:32)

  • It is hard for the rich to enter the kingdom (Luke 18:25)

  • The humble will have a place in the kingdom (Luke 18:16,17; 6:20)

  • Jesus is described as the king of the Jews (Luke 19:38; 23:38)

  • Jesus was to depart, leaving work for his disciples to do (Luke 19:12),

  • Jesus will come again (Luke 17:24,30; 18:8, 21:27)

  • There will be a resurrection and judgement (Luke 11:31,32)

  • Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the prophets will be in the kingdom of God (Luke 13:28)

  • The disciples will be given everlasting life (Luke 18:30)

  • Jesus will eat and drink with his disciples in the kingdom of God (Luke 22:16-19)

  • Jesus will be king reigning on David’s throne over the house of Jacob (Israel). His kingdom will never end. (Luke 1:32,33,69,72)

  • The disciples will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel in the kingdom (Luke 22:30)

  • There will be peace on earth (Luke 2:14)
